BUILD: A K-1 Early Reading Intervention

Program Overview
To meet the needs of the K-1 students identified as at-risk for dyslexia or identified with dyslexia, the staff of the Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia and Learning Disorders at Scottish Rite for Children has developed a 100-lesson, small group early reading curriculum that addresses all five components of effective reading instruction: alphabet, letter/sound knowledge, phonological awareness, vocabulary, and comprehension. Each component is taught developmentally using a direct, systematic, cumulative, multisensory method of instruction and practice to meet the specific needs of K-1 students struggling with reading.
The curriculum is designed to be taught by certified teachers, interventionists, special education teachers, dyslexia therapists, CALTS/trainees, etc. Training is required.

Take Flight: A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia Retraining
June 10 – 13, 2024

Program Overview
Take Flight Retraining is for individuals trained to the therapy level in a 2-year dyslexia therapist training course. This training is a series of 5 days focusing on the delivery of the Take Flight curriculum. Days 1-4 will cover Books 1-4 (Year 1 Kit) Day 5 will be held in the Spring of 2025. Day 5 will cover Books 5-7 (Year 2 Kit).
Days 1-4 Registration and Materials Cost:
- Kit Cost: $802.23
- Registration: $100.00
- Total Cost: $902.23
First Year Training Kit is required for Days 1, 2, 3, and 4. Second Year Training Kit is required for Day 5. The kit cost is $240.35, but will not be due until Spring 2025.
