We understand that navigating the evaluation process can be overwhelming, so we’re here to provide guidance every step of the way. While a formal dyslexia diagnosis is not required to access Dyslexia School of Houston’s dyslexia therapy services, we strongly recommend having your child evaluated by a professional to ensure they receive the appropriate support at their enrolled school.
Application Process
Parents or guardians can initiate the process by contacting our school via email at info@dyslexiahouston.org or call us at 832-767-0915.
As part of the application, we ask for documents such as current vision and hearing test results, report cards, benchmark scores, and any previous evaluations. These help us understand your child's needs and tailor our services accordingly.
Once your application is approved, you'll receive a packet of parent/teacher questionnaires by mail or email. Please complete and return these, and we'll schedule a consultation with our Diagnostician.
Evaluation Day – What to Expect
Your child will be paired with a team member who is familiar with their paperwork, ensuring personalized attention throughout the testing process.
Testing sessions typically last 2-4 hours, spread over multiple visits depending on your child's age and needs. Rest assured, they'll have breaks to recharge.
During the final visit, we'll review the evaluation findings with you, discuss your child's specific needs, and outline our collaborative approach moving forward.
What to expect as a parent:
You'll spend some time in our waiting area during your child's evaluation, so feel free to bring along something to keep yourself occupied.
Your role becomes more active during the final visit, where we'll address any questions or concerns you may have to ensure clarity and understanding.
We welcome your questions and input, as your child's needs are important to us.
Following the evaluation, you'll receive an informational packet and a formal report to share with your child's educators and support network.
