DYSLEXIA THERAPIST TRAINING

We provide high-quality training for certified educators and therapists dedicated to supporting
students with dyslexia. In collaboration with the curriculum of Scottish Rite For Children, our training programs offer evidence-based strategies to help struggling readers succeed. Explore our upcoming opportunities to advance your expertise.
All upcoming trainings will take place at the Dyslexia School of Houston Training Center and Lab School located at 9409 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77024.

BRIDGES Training
Dates: June 9 – 13, 2025 | October 2 – 3, 2025 | 3 days in Summer 2026 (TBD)
Overview: This ten-day training, divided into three sessions, empowers certified teachers to deliver dyslexia intervention through an innovative teacher-avatar-student model. The initial five days of training will take place June 9 – 13, 2025, followed by ongoing coaching throughout the first and second years. This includes two additional days on October 2 – 3, 2025, and a final three-day session in Summer 2026.
Bridges: A Dyslexia Intervention Connecting Teacher, Avatar and Student is a curriculum written by the staff of the Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia & Learning Disorders at Scottish Rite for Children. Bridges is designed to deliver high-quality, research-based dyslexia instruction while minimizing teacher prep time. A digital avatar teacher, Ms. Hallie, leads the more complex components of structured dyslexia intervention. Scripted manuals, paired with this training, give educators the tools to confidently deliver effective, research-based intervention.
The program requires a full-time certified teacher, who follows the script for approximately three-fourths of each lesson, while Ms. Hallie co-teaches the remaining portion.

- 2 – 10 Teachers: $1,570.00 for each teacher

JET Training
Dates: June 16 – 20, 2025 | October 17, 2025 | January 9, 2026 | March 6, 2026
Overview: Developed by the staff of the Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia and Learning Disorders, JET: A Fast-Paced Reading Intervention is a one-year, fast-paced intervention designed to meet the needs of older students, thirteen years of age or older, diagnosed with dyslexia. It addresses all areas of instruction outlined in the Texas Dyslexia Handbook.
Training consists of a five-day summer session, scheduled for June 16 – 20, 2025, followed by three full-day seminars over the next year. It also includes five video reviews leading to Practitioner-Level certification.
Eligible candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education or a related field
- Hold a valid teaching certificate

Take Flight Retraining
Dates: June 23 – 27, 2025
Overview: A five-day intensive training designed for Certified Academic Language Therapists (CALTs) who want to advance their skills and become Take Flight Therapists. Participants will receive specialized training and resources to refine their dyslexia intervention techniques.
The final day of training, June 27, 2025, will offer training for the BUILD curriculum for individuals interested.

BUILD Training
Date: June 27, 2025
Overview: To support K-1 students identified as at risk for dyslexia, the staff at the Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia & Learning Disorders at Scottish Rite for Children developed BUILD: A K-1 Early Reading Intervention, a 100-lesson, small group program.
BUILD targets five key components of reading, taught in a direct, systematic, cumulative, and multisensory way to meet the developmental needs of struggling kindergarten and first-grade readers. This one-day training equips kindergarten and first-grade teachers with effective tools and strategies to support at-risk students through early reading intervention.

Take Flight Training
Dates: July 7 – 25, 2025
Overview: Become a Certified Take Flight Dyslexia Therapist through Dyslexia School of Houston’s immersive two-year training program. Designed for certified teachers, this research-based course prepares educators to deliver structured, multisensory instruction to students with dyslexia.
The Take Flight curriculum, developed by the Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia & Learning Disorders at Scottish Rite for Children, is a proven intervention designed for students ages 7 and older. It builds upon decades of success in dyslexia remediation and aligns with the five essential components of reading identified by the National Reading Panel.
Our training is accredited by the International Multisensory Structured Language Educational Council (IMSLEC) and equips teachers with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to identify and support students with dyslexia through evidence-based practices.
Eligible candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education or a related field
- Hold a valid Texas teaching certificate
- Have support from their school
- Be able to have 3 groups of students 4 or 5 days a week for 2 years (1 student can be considered “a group”)

- Training Fee: $1,000.00 per year

In-person interviews will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the Training Center. Orientation for accepted candidates will take place on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
