MICROSCHOOL ADMISSIONS

Welcome to the Dyslexia School of Houston Microschool. We are grateful for your interest and the opportunity to get to know you and your family!
We invite you to visit our school and learn more about our team. Our mission is to create an optimal learning environment for children who are struggling academically due to dyslexia and related learning disorders. Our faculty is composed of highly trained educators, all of whom hold at least a master’s degree in fields such as Special Education.
Our application process is designed to ensure that the Dyslexia School of Houston Microschool provides the most appropriate academic program for the children that we enroll.  Our program is designed for students ages 5 through 8, who have had difficulties getting the support needed for their unique learning challenges in the school system. Our ideal students are who can benefit from a rigorous learning environment tailored to their needs. This is not a program designed for children on the moderate -severe autism spectrum, or significant attention or behavioral regulation weaknesses that may prevent the student from fully accessing our short-term curriculum paradigm.
During our admissions season, we screen students as openings for the following school year become available. Screenings may begin as early as possible and will continue until all spaces for the upcoming school year are filled.  Please do not hesitate to contact Elizabeth van der Pol, Director of Microschool, at 832-767-0915 or liz@dyslexiahouston.org if you have any questions.
Online Application
Please fill out the application and pay the non-refundable $75. If you have questions about the online application please contact liz@dyslexiahouston.org
Admissions Process:
  1. Fill out the online application, completed by parent/guardian.
  2. Pay the $75.00 nonrefundable application fee within the application.
  3. If applicable, a teacher questionnaire is automatically sent to the current homeroom teacher to complete once the parent submits the application.
  4. Provide all required supporting documents, including the report of a psychoeducational evaluation, educational evaluations and current IEPs conducted within the last three years. Documents may be submitted within the application, or you may submit the documentation by email at liz@dyslexiahouston.org. If no psychoeducational evaluation has been completed, and student is accepted for enrollment, we will reach out to you to discuss completing an evaluation, which requires an additional fee of  $1,500
  5. Once the application is completed, an email will be sent confirming receipt of application. To track the progress, or answer questions about enrollment, please reach out to Elizabeth van der Pol, liz@dyslexiahouston.org
Once your application is complete, our team will review your child’s file. We ask for up to 3 weeks to review completed applications. Families of prospective students will be contacted to schedule a screening, during which formal and informal assessment of academic areas, oral language skills, and writing proficiency will be completed. Screenings are contingent on openings for the upcoming school year.  A fee of $150.00 will apply if your child is scheduled for a screening. Screening fees are only required if your child is scheduled for a screening. If an evaluation is required, the $150 screening fee will be waived.
Admissions Decisions
All applications will be carefully considered. The Admissions Committee will conduct a comprehensive review of all documents and reports pertaining to your child to determine the next steps in the admissions process. If it is determined that the Dyslexia School of Houston Microschool can meet your student’s needs, you will be contacted to schedule a screening for your student. If it is determined that we cannot effectively meet your child’s needs or there is no availability, we will let you know of our decision and provide recommendations. Admissions decisions are made individually, based on our program’s ability to meet your child’s needs and classroom availability.
Thank you for considering the Dyslexia School of Houston Microschool. We look forward to getting to know your child!
